Summer Camp Inclusion

Our Camp is inclusive, which means it is not exclusively for children who have special needs, but we have staff available and qualified to invite children who do need accommodations to be fully integrated in our camp program, so that they may learn and play safely amongst typically developing peers.*

It is not a separate camp or group and there is no extra fee. If your camper has a physical, developmental, social/emotional, or behavioral concern and you are not sure if they would be considered as part of our inclusion supports initiative, please contact us. We will work with you to determine if there are reasonable accommodations or supports that would benefit your child. In general, any child with an IEP, 504 plan would be a candidate to receive inclusion supports.

To ensure a successful fit, families will be involved in an intake process with a member of our inclusion team to help us learn more about your camper. This appointment allows us to discuss your campers’ strengths, unique needs and how we can support them to be successful at camp.

Some typical supports we offer our campers are:

  • A preview tour for individual campers prior to camp start date
  • Visual schedules, self-regulation strategies, and reviewed expectations used for all campers
  • Accommodations can be implemented on a more individualized basis after the intake process
  • A proactive, individualized, and positive approach to behavior modification
  • All camp counselors and staff are training on Inclusion philosophies, best practice, and preventative inclusive strategies.

*Campers utilizing inclusion supports must be able to be integrated into our traditional day camp within standard ratios and are expected to follow the behavior guidelines established for Ferry Hill campers.

*Campers requiring intakes need to register a minimum of 2 weeks prior to starting camp

Ferry Hill Center’s Inclusion Initiative is managed by MERGE Inclusion Consulting
